Sleepless in SF
Day 12 – Lian is in the process of falling asleep. This is becoming a longer and longer process. Michelle and I are tired, and we bickered today over who would rock her/swaddle her/dance her/sing her/shush her or do something else to her to make her fall asleep. And we’re not even at the 4-6 week mark which is supposed to be the difficult stage!
I’m here in the kitchen, and I hear the battery-powered swingset going steadily through the baby monitor. She’s gurgling and hiccupping in the background. I’m on the edge of my seat – hoping that she stays at the gurgling stage and doesn’t escalate to the all-out wail. Please stay asleep, please stay asleep. If I knew the moves to a sleep dance, I’d dance it naked in the street if it would buy us 4 hours of peaceful sleep.
We just need to take baby steps, I keep reminding myself. Just get to next week, when we can weigh her again and see if she’s over 8 pounds 1 oz. And then we no longer have to wake her up at night. Wow. Let’s hope that actually gets us more sleep!
